Black Wall Street Was Built With Intention

3

Greenwood was known by Black Wall Street.

In the early 1900s, Greenwood, Oklahoma became one of the most successful Black communities in the U.S. It was home to hundreds of Black-owned businesses from banks and schools to theaters, churches, and medical offices.

Greenwood was and is a community rooted in land ownership, shared wealth, and self-governed institutions all built with intention.

At The Greenwood Trust, we’re honoring that legacy by helping rebuild the conditions that allow Black communities to thrive through housing, education, cultural preservation, and entrepreneurship.
